HARDWARE & SOFTWARE
A multi-Mac-based studio using Logic DAWs and a fine selection of outboard and third party software plug-ins. Genelec monitors, Focusrite and other tube pre-amps, Soundcraft and A and H mixers and quality mic collection.
LOR has been up and running since 1990, when owner Phil Riley moved into the new emerging technology of the project studio. As one of the studio home bases for White Cloud Records/Naxos and Learning Media, LOR grew from a small tape-based 8 track studio into the full digital computer-based facility (and family of musicians) that clients know today.On the way we've embraced the chaotic world of television and film, advertising, video shoots, international projects, mastering, children's music, live jazz, large choral ensembles, christian punk bands, music for the Americas Cup, All Black tests and Millennium celebrations. We've had 5 Tui nominations, been in the American Billboard and radio-play charts, topped the Scandinavian pop charts, NZ classical radio number one single and been a 'player' in the world-wide Celtic and Adult Contemporary music scene.
Most of all we're intensely proud of a long list of wonderful recordings and album projects for some very special New Zealand and overseas artists.

Life of Riley is a super-friendly digital recording suite and Mastering studio set in a spectacular position overlooking Wellington harbour.
Powerful Apple Mac desktop and laptop computers, Avid and Digidesign hardware, Soundcraft 24 channel analogue/digital desk and Logic software DAW‘s form the core of the Recording setup. There’s a fine collection of studio instruments available eg guitar collection, amps, full drum kit and percussion, a beautiful Yamaha upright piano plus quality AKG, Sure etc mics and vintage outboard equipment from Urei, Roland, Kong, Yamaha, Focusrite, Bellari and others. Also essential popular third party software from Waves, Abbey Road, Stylus RMX, Sample House orchestral strings, brass, choral and ethnic instruments etc
Studio credits include tracks on international albums alongside Brian Eno, Dido, Sarah McLachlan, Secret Garden, Enya, Sinéad O’Connor and Clannad. Also TV work on high-profile New Zealand shows and ads.
Singers-songwriters, emerging artists or experienced musicians-demo your songs or record an album to New Zealand radio or international release quality.
